“If you’re interested in becoming a referee, please note that new referees must be 13 years of age or older at the time of registration. If you don’t yet have your U.S. Soccer Referee Certification and need to take the First-Time Referee course, please follow the checklist below:

FAQ
How do I sign up for assignments?
Once you’ve registered in GotSport, make sure to update your availability by completing your blackout dates. Our referee assignors will schedule matches based on your availability and the level of matches suitable for you.
Where do I get my uniform?
Elk Grove Soccer does not sell referee equipment, but we recommend purchasing a starter referee kit from Official Sports. A complete equipment list can be found in the Elk Grove Soccer Referee Handbook under section 3.1. The dress code and attire guidelines are covered in sections 11.1 and 14.5 of the handbook.
What if I am nervous?
It’s natural to feel nervous when starting something new. Elk Grove Soccer is dedicated to supporting new referees. We typically begin new referees as assistant referees alongside experienced officials so they can learn. As you gain confidence, we’ll gradually transition you to the center referee role, if that’s something you’re interested in.
How do I get paid?
Referees must complete the registration process in the GotSport Pay platform and enter all necessary information, including W9 details for IRS reporting purposes.
Is there a Gotsport help guide?
How do I know which matches are coming up to plan for my availability?
Email your Assignor, David Kincannon, and ask for the upcoming schedule.
How to Self-Assign matches?
I did not get a Form 1099 for my taxes.
Elk Grove Soccer is only required to report income over $600. If you did not earn $600 or more, you will not receive a 1099 at the end of the year.
Who do I report incidents to?
Incidents during a game, such as a sending off or parent conduct issues, should be reported to the respective PAD committee for each league. Additionally, we recommend emailing the referee assignors at referee@elkgrovesoccer.com to ensure they are informed of all incidents.
