Before the start of the season you will receive an email with a link of how to setup a practice location and time.

We use many fields around the Elk Grove area and have a wide variety of facilities available to you. The link below will take you to our field scheduling system and has a helpful video along with frequently asked questions when scheduling fields.

For the U9 – U19 Recreation coach – please contact your Age Group Coordinator to setup your practice.

Once you have received your field practice confirmation, now is the time to add it to your PlayMetrics App so all the parents/players can see your practice schedule.

How to Create Other Events for Teams

Applicable Roles

As an Admin or Director, you are able to create Other Events for multiple teams in one action. Other Events are often utilized for tournaments that teams are participating in. You can create an Other Event to represent a tournament, then add all the teams that will be participating in that tournament. Other Events can be created for a single day or recurring for a defined timeframe.

When Other Events are created in this fashion, the events are then managed individually at the team level. This allows Coaches and Team Managers to adjust the times and details for the event that is specific for their team.

Note: This approach differs from Club Events in that a Club Event is a centrally managed event that is published on all team calendars (where any changes by an Admin are pushed out to all teams).

Creating an Other Event for Multiple Teams

As an Admin or Director, navigate to “Teams” in the left-hand menu, click “More Actions“, and select “Add Other Event“.

This will open the “New Event” window. From here, fill out the event information including title, description, teams, date, start/end time, toggle “Recurring” if applicable, and event address.

When finished, click the “Add Event” button. A pop-up window will appear giving you the option to send a mass notification to the Team members informing them of the created event. After giving a notification selection, the event will be added to the Team calendars. Once created, the event will be managed by teams at the team level. If you need to edit or remove these events, you will need to go to each team to make these changes.

Thank you for agreeing to be a coach for the 2024 Elk Grove Soccer Fall Recreation season.

In a time when it’s becoming more difficult to find volunteers, we greatly appreciate your willingness to step up and help provide the youth of our community a chance to play soccer.

We offer some great incentives this season. We need you to get registered first. In the next 10 days, if all 4 coach requirements say “fulfilled” or “pending”, you have signed up for a coaching session, and your child is registered to play, you will get the following on June 14th:

Signup information for your practices
50% refund for the child you are coaching (head coaches only, and it must be confirmed by the your Age Group Coordinator (AGC) that you will be a head coach)

Here is the process for being cleared as a coach:

Complete the 4 USYS requirements in your profile:
- Intro to Safety
- Background Check
- SafeSport (refresher for returning coaches, full course for new ones).
- Livescan – Fingerprint section
  - Should say “fulfilled” for returning coaches. If it doesn’t say fulfilled, then you will need to get prints
  - If you are new, there will be a form you get after completing this section. Print that out and take it to our designated fingerprinting location (Mail & More). They will bill the league; you do not have to pay anything.

Please send the registration and coach session links to your assistants, and encourage all your players to sign up before the fee increases on June 16th.

Purpose – The health and safety of soccer players and the condition of soccer fields is a top priority for Elk Grove Soccer. Poor weather conditions not only contribute to the damage of soccer fields, but, more importantly, inclement weather conditions can present a hazard to players and spectators. Coaches, referees, tournament and club officials have the overall responsibility for the safety of players during practices and games.

5v5 measurement is in yards.
7v7, 9v9 and 11v11 are in feet. 3 feet = 1 yard.

Elk Grove Soccer teams playing the 7v7 format will play with a “build-out line.” Please see the details and field set up below. For further information, you may also review the links shown at the end of this notice. For any further information, you may contact the club Directors of Coaching. Field Setup

Build Out Line

When the goalkeeper has the ball in his or her hands during play from the opponent, the opposing team must move behind the build out line until the ball is put into
Once the opposing team is behind the build out line, the goalkeeper can pass, throw or roll the ball into play (punts and drop kicks are not allowed).
After the ball is put into play by the goalkeeper, the opposing team can cross the build out line and play resumes as normal.
The opposing team must also move behind the build out line during a goal kick until the ball is put into play.
If a goalkeeper punts or drop kicks the ball, an indirect free kick should be awarded to the opposing team from the spot of the offense.
If the punt or drop kick occurs within the goal area, the indirect free kick should be taken on the goal area line parallel to the goal line at the nearest point to where the infringement occurred.
The build out line promotes playing the ball out of the back in a less pressured setting.
The build out line will also be used to denote where offside offenses can be called.
Players cannot be penalized for an offside offense between the halfway line and the build out.
Players can be penalized for an offside offense between the build out line and goal.

Build Out Line Practical Applications

Ideally, the goalkeeper will wait to put the ball into play once all opponents are past the build out line.
However, the goalkeeper can put the ball into play sooner but he or she does so accept the positioning of the opponents and the consequences of how play resumes.
To support the intent of the development rule, coaches and referees should be mindful of any intentional delays being caused by opponents not retreating in a timely manner or encroaching over the build out line prior to the ball being put into play.
Coaches are responsible for addressing these types of issues with their players.
Referees can manage the situation with misconduct if deemed appropriate.

In case of inclement weather, please check the website for weather instructions. If bad weather rolls in during the day, a decision will be made at the staff. Games/practices canceled due to weather are typically not made up. Elk Grove Soccer does, however, reserve the right to reschedule. No refunds will be given for games/training/camps cancelled due to the weather or field conditions.

Field closures weekday:

If the staff close any of the fields, they will email the following by 2pm on the day of field closure: Director(s) of Coaching

The Elk Grove Soccer Staff will notify their departments/members by 3pm (this is our weather deadline time to let parents/players know of any changes).

Information will be sent directly through our registration email system. You will receive notification via the primary email you registered your child with, or, the primary email you signed up to coach with.

*Please note. CSD can cancel fields. Please call the weather hotline for CSD at (916) – 405 – 5682.

Field closures weekend:

If we close any of the fields, you will receive an email from the Elk Grove Soccer staff by 3pm Friday for the Saturday games and 3pm Saturday for the Sunday games whenever possible. Please note – we don’t send you an email announcing “practice is on”.

Coaching Canceling Practice – Other Reasons

We do understand there are times when a coach has to cancel practice for another reason outside of the weather. We do however ask you to follow a similar process for notifying parents of the cancellation.

Your parents should be notified, at the very latest, at 5 hours before the practice start time. We currently have an app that allows you to send texts/emails and post an announcement. It may be necessary to call some parents by phone to notify them.

For other field location equipment – these will either be setup for you or an individual will bring the equipment to you before your games. This information will be sent to you prior to the season.

Coach should have the following with them:

Valid Game Day Roster (see printing game day roster)
Cal North Roster (not needed for in house games)
Rules of the Game
Copies of the Cal North Medical Releases for ALL players
Concussion Information

First Aid Kit

Ice or Cold-Packs
Basic first aid kit
Blister Band-Aids and moleskin/scissors (blisters)
Kleenex (bloody noses)
Athletic & electrical tape (ankle taping, uniform numbers and shoe repairs)
Anti-bacterial spray, gauze pads, stretch wrap (field abrasions)

Optional Items

Canopy/Umbrellas (rain/sun)
Canopies are not usually allowed on turf fields
Team Bench
Blankets (cold weather)

Responsibility of the Home Team (this is the first team listed on the game day schedule):

Home team wear blue jerseys (away team wear white jerseys)
5v5 Games club provides metal goals, but bring PUGGs just in case.

Home and Away Team responsibilities:

Both teams help setup the field – goals and nets (if applicable)
Home team brings the flags (U9-U14)

Standings (please note for our younger age groups we do not post standings) – will be posted on the Elk Grove Soccer website.

In some cases, we do have player movement between teams in special circumstances. If this occurs and is sanctioned by the club the following policy is to be followed:

Parent contacts the Age Group Coordinator (AGC) and outlines the request.
AGC contacts the current coach and newly requested team coach and gets an OK from both parties.
Club initiates the player move, notifying the player’s family, current coach, newly requested coach and specifies the date of movement.
Rosters updated in club registration system.
Once the new player shows on the roster, new coach reaches out and invites player to practice.

Guide for Scoring Games

Here are instructions for a coach to print their MATCH CARDS – this is for the majority of our recreation teams playing in house within Elk Grove (U9-U14):

Printing Match Cards: Last year we had the coaches just show their playmetrics roster on their phone. Dan says that was ok, but not great. So here’s what we came up with: Print your roster from playmetrics. Fold and tear or cut it in half so it only shows the players name and number (not the contact info part). Hand that to the ref each game.

New policy: Review schedule when it its posted and request any changes immediately with scheduler (me). If something comes up during the season, you must give 2 weeks notice to your AGC and/or me, and we will contact the opponent and work out an option. If it’s less than 2 weeks, an assistant will need to cover or if there is none, the club will assign a coach to cover

Uniform Requirements:

The club designates the recreation uniform as:

Elk Grove Soccer Blue or White jersey
Elk Grove Soccer Blue Shorts
Elk Grove Soccer Blue Socks

This is like a uniform at school – we are trying to keep the costs down for everyone and not have people buy additional items. It also makes it easy for coaches/parents to understand what they need and what they should wear. It also helps families when it comes to handing their uniforms to their younger brother and sisters to use.

Additional socks – After receiving several complaints from parents/coaches/referees we decided to alleviate the issue of different color sock discussion. Many parents wanted one sock for all and didn’t want to have the issue of buying additional socks. This is the reason we only have one sock option. IMPORTANT – Any Elk Grove Soccer registered team not wearing the designated Elk Grove Soccer uniform will forfeit the points from their game and the opposing team will be awarded a 5-0 win. If both teams are not in uniform compliance both teams will forfeit points from their game and the score will be left blank.
